Guest scooby Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Hello all I am trying to decide between a citroen c8 2.2 HDi SX and a ford Galaxy Ghia. Has anyone tried both before? They say HDi engines are better than TDi :D ? What I like about the Citroen is the electric sliding doors but there dosent seem to be much leg room when all seats are occupied although the citreon is supposed to be larger in size. It also got the 'best MPV' award. I wonder if that carries any weight! Galaxy has more leg room but looks like it has a lot of problems with air conditioning. Are these problems there even in the 2004 ghias? Eager to hear your views B) Quote

I felt that the Citroen needs a 2.2 engine to match the 2 L engine of the galaxy Ghia but I suppose that would depend on the PS as well. Any way I just thought of a plus point for the citroen - I would get a better welcome if I drive down to France will I? :D Quote

Andrew T Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 We had a citroen for 3.5 years and 60,000 miles until we changed to the Galaxy and I never, ever want another citroen as long as I live. It wasn't that it suffered any really major or expensive failures but there was always something, and usually 2 or 3 things going wrong with it. Seats aside, it was a very nice drive but a car you can't trust is no use.Did anyone mention that it's French? Quote
Ian in Northampton Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 FWIW, when my wife took our Galaxy on holiday and it fell apart on her - the aircon clutch had disintegrated, allegedly, meaning that the engine wouldn't turn - she was given a C8 while the Galaxy was repaired. She thought it was the bee's knees, and came back desperate for us to get shot of the Galaxy and get a C8 instead. She loved the remote operated rear sliding doors and loads of other electronic gizmos, and didn't mind the fact that the gear lever was stuck in the middle of the dashboard. I went through the motions of researching the C8, but didnt find a positive review of it or its equivalents, and she's gradually forgotten about it. Quote

Almost every car has its own problem areas.FWIW I've sat in the C8 but not driven one; seemed better for rear seal legroom to me than the Galaxy, but it still looks like a van with windows whereas the Galaxy has style. :D Quote

I don't like steping down into the seats of "ordinary" cars these days, but my parents don't like stepping up into the Galaxy. We'll see how they get on tomorrow on our run to Paris 6-up! That's something you cannot do in a Volvo, 6 adults plus luggage. Quote

jkspoff Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 After driving the C8 for a few days on hire before getting the Galaxy, I can say that the Galaxy is more car like, the handling and overall driveability is loads better. There seems to be something missing from the French people carriers, the Renault Espace been one of them, the VW/Ford/SEAT Galaxy is more refined and firm, more like a Mercedes or BMW, but loads more affordable and practical. I would not hesitate to recommend the Galaxy to you, it also seems to have a bit of envy about it, people with families seems quite jealous of the Galaxy, whereas the likes of the C8 and Peugeot equivalent just get overlooked. Maybe its the straight forward, yet smooth lines of the Galaxy. It also helps the image as the police have started using the Galaxy now. Highly recommended, even with the intermediate faults that all cars get at some stage. Just make sure you get a good warranty. Quote
monty-TDi Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 HiI had a brand new HDi C8 July 2003 for 10 weeks before collecting my 3 year old gal 115 tdi 65000miles., C8 was very very thirsty not a patch on the galaxy, struggled to get into the 30's whilst I often drive carefully and get 55+ (both on the computer and when calculated). Kids complained that seats were no good on the C8 and there is much more scope for collecting rubbish in the sliding tracks on the floor on the C8. Also I did not like the central clocks, particularly as both speedo and rev counter go up 10, 20, 30 , ...definite scope for misreading when you have just picked on up. GSMGuy Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Just a quick note on the HDi v TDI (specifically PD vers) My last 3 cars, a 406, 307 and Picasso have all had the HDi motor - all were bought new.My current car is a 2 year old Gal TDi 115 Zetec auto with 50k on her - all cars have been fitted with Speedbuster tuning boxes... IMHO, the TDi motor is MUCH smoother and a hell of a lot more torquey than any of the HDi's - regardless of the BHP, it is also quieter, and smoother... I won't be having another french car for this, and one other reason - The build quality on French cars is totally CRAP - things fall off, stop working or just bloody rattle and squeak to annoy you! I decided on a used new shape Galaxy due to the neat integrated child seats, the trip computer (see user name) and the Ford dealer is only one mile away - didn't realise that I would now be decidedly equivocal about taking it to them in view of all the posts about correct oil for TDi's etc. To be fair they have been good so far - provided the radio code free of charge even though we didn't actually buy from them :lol: Anyway to get back 'on message' my colleague opted for an ex-demonstrator heavily discounted new C8. Had several trim problems immediately. Now with the cold snap the electric sliding doors are well and truly iced shut in the mornings - and no amount of pulling will dislodge them :lol: . I had thought of the manual swing doors of the Galaxy as not so hot - but obviously not as 'cool' as my colleagues alternative :lol: Quote

Well, actually, yes.You say you work for PSA but you buy a Ford.Your salary which keeps you and your family in mortgage payments, food and other nessesites is paid from people buying PSA cars but you use this money to buy a competitors vehicle.Hypocryte come to mind.
